Pie 97 – This pie is a made from scratch, 6″ Cherry Berry Pie with hand sculpted details. It is painted with edible oil paints. To see the baked version, follow the link on my profile.
It has been over a year since I posted my last art and over 3 years since calling for models to be part of the project. I know I’m not alone with my fellow creators who have been reeling and grieving repeatedly over the past few years. I have seen many posts apologizing for absences or seeing artists drag themselves to create in the current environment. We have been through a lot, but we persist. Anyway, all to say, here is the first piece in the new series. I will leave all the worry about how long it took me and all the excuses behind as well.
This art was made in collaboration with a model who wishes to remain anonymous, but they did want to share these words with you:
“As a person who’s non-binary and a trauma survivor, my body doesn’t always feel like home. Long before I had the words to describe how I experienced my own body, I was assigned female. I was given anatomy that didn’t align with who I was and no words could undo that. I then survived sexual assault and words couldn’t describe the pain and lack of safety. Throughout the last few years I learned that I deserve to take up space and regain my power. I’m learning what it takes to continuously explore my gender, advocate for trauma survivors, and most importantly find a home within my own skin. I hope that through this project others can learn to accept themselves, find their voice, and become who they are destined to be.”
I am truly grateful to the models who shared their images with me and trusted me to share their stories. They have all been so patient and kind over the long duration and waiting for me.
